This study proposes an online museum collection system to exhibit objects present in a museum’s catalogue. Patrons are most times reluctant to visit museums and expect that they can access a museum’s collection at the comfort of their homes or offices, by simply entering the name of the museum on their browsers and making a successful search. Increased reliance on the Internet in today’s culture means that websites are quickly becoming the face and access portal for institutions and, for some visitors, their first impression. An online collection system will help automate processes and allow identification of large number of tagged objects and artefacts without needing the help of a guide. The proposed system creates a platform that promises a comprehensive user experience as it relates to online collections access. For example, museum patrons have always voiced and wanted the ability to share collections objects via social media. The system is implemented using PHP and MYSQL technologies.
1.1 Background Of The Study
Digital museums appeared in the Internet many years ago. First digital museums have emerged since 1991. However, despite the identity and quality of exhibitions their exhibits are comparable with traditional art museum publications albums, catalogues and books, while the Internet can create a qualitatively new displays, where previously impossible or inconsistent methods of display historical and artistic heritage have been set up. What is the identity of the museum, in which you enter? The main feature is that here are collections, which actually stored in different museums in different countries or even on different continents or does not exist at all.
